1999 Directory of Michigan School-based Health Centers
This directory lists School-Based Health Centers (SBHC) and School-linked Health Centers (SLHC) in the State of Michigan . It indicates the geographical areas of concentration of the health centers, types of services available, and the health care practitioner on site. Affiliations of the National Assembly on School-Based Health Care or the School Community Health Alliance of Michigan are noted. To help define the health centers and categorize them, the School-Based Health Initiative-School Based Program Models were utilized.

Center for Health and Health Care in Schools 
The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools (CHHCS) is a nonpartisan policy and program resource center located at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.

CHHCS builds on a 20-year history of testing strategies to strengthen health care delivery systems for children and adolescents. For the past decade, with support from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Center staff and consultants have worked with institutional leaders, state officials and clinical providers to maximize outcomes for children through more effective health programming in schools.

American School Health Association
The American School Health Association unites the many professionals working in schools who are committed to safeguarding the health of school-aged children. The Association, a multidisciplinary organization of administrators, counselors, dentists, health educators, physical educators, school nurses and school physicians, advocates high-quality school health instruction, health services and a healthful school environment.

National Assembly on School-based Health Care

The National Assembly on School-Based Health Care is dedicated to promoting accessible, quality school-based primary health and mental health care for children and youth through interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts.  The National Assembly supports the institutionalization of school-based health care nationwide as an essential strategy for improving the lives of children and optimizing their opportunities for success in school and society.  NASBHC supports its individual and organizational members by providing community, state, and national advocacy, information and knowledge exchange, networking opportunities, and technical assistance.

National Association of School Nurses

National Conference of State Legislators. Funding School Health Programs
The NCSL web site provides personalized, comprehensive access for state legislators and legislative staff to NCSL information and reports, plus the ability to search more than 500,000 state documents encompassing legislative policy reports, current and past legislation, state statutes, and 50-state surveys.

The site also gives public users access to many NCSL reports, meetings schedule, and a gateway to state legislative sites. NCSL print publications also can be ordered.

Bureau of Primary Health Care's Center for School-based Health
The Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) provides funding to health centers that has led to the development and operation of 512 school-based health center programs through the Consolidated Health Centers Programs. In accordance with language included in congressional appropriations reports, 130 of these school-based health centers (SBHCs) are funded through the Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities Program (HSHC) under the Consolidated Health Centers appropriation.

The Center for School-Based Health serves as the focal point for expanding and strengthening SBHC Programs by serving policy leadership, programmatic technical assistance, training, models, and standards especially for BPHC-supported SBHC programs including HSHC. The BPHC supports SBHCs as a significant vehicle to accomplish the BPHC’s mission of Improving and Expanding Access to Health Care for all Americans Nationwide.

Bureau of Primary Health Care's Healthy Schools, Health Communities Forum
Since the 1970s, BPHC has supported and promoted the concept of school-based health centers. Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities (HSHC) was established in 1994 to encourage the development of new, comprehensive, full-time, school-based primary care programs that serve high risk children. It is the first Federal program to support the creation of school-based health centers. The BPHC continues to support school-based health centers as a significant vehicle to accomplish the BPHC’s mission of Improving and Expanding Access to Health Care for all Americans Nationwide.

Adolescent Health Services of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, HRSA

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities - Special Series: Enrolling Children in Health Coverage Programs, Schools Are Part of the Equation
Founded in 1981, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has emerged over the past two decades as one of the leading organizations in the country working on fiscal policy issues and issues affecting low- and moderate-income families and individuals.  The Center specializes in research and analysis oriented toward policy decisions that policymakers face at both federal and state levels. The Center examines data and research findings and produces analyses designed to be accessible to public officials, other non-profit organizations, and the media.

CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health
In 1988, CDC established the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), within which it created the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH). DASH includes the Office of the Director (OD), the Program Development and Services Branch (PDSB), the Research Application Branch (RAB), and the Surveillance and Evaluation Research Branch (SERB).

HRSA's Report on Opportunities to Use Medicaid for Maternal and Child Health Services

The Health Resources and Services Administration is developing eight fact sheets to assist state and local health officials in understanding how Medicaid works and how it can assure access to health services for underserved populations. Three fact sheets are complete. The remaining fact sheets are under development.

Michigan Primary Care Association

The Michigan Primary Care Association is a non-profit membership organization consisting of providers of primary health care services. The association's mission is to promote, support and develop comprehensive, accessible and affordable quality primary health care services to everyone in Michigan , especially those traditionally underserved.

The association accomplishes this through networking and information sharing, advocacy, technical assistance, training and education on behalf of federally supported community, migrant and homeless health centers, rural health clinics and other community based providers of primary care services.

US Dept of Education's Safe and Drug Free Schools
The Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program is the Federal government's primary vehicle for reducing drug, alcohol and tobacco use, and violence, through education and prevention activities in our nation's schools. This program is designed to prevent violence in and around schools, and strengthen programs that prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, involve parents, and are coordinated with related Federal, State and community efforts and resources.
