Simple Veterinary Care for Your Pet June 21st, 2011

Your family may include a different type of family member such as a well loved pet. Like all family members, your pet needs to maintain or improve his health. Veterinarian vistits help insure that your pet will live a long healthy life. The basic needs of your pet are to receive heartworm treatments to eliminate internal parasites, vaccinations against canine distemper, canine adenovirus and canine parvovirus. Cats also need vaccinations for Feline Panleukopenia Virus which until recently was the number one killer of felines. Other important vaccinations or cats are Feline Calicivirus/Herpesvirus Vaccine, Rabies Virus Vaccine, Feline Leukemia Virus Vaccine and Chlamydia, Feline Infectious Peritonitis, and Ringworm Vaccines.

The additional protection that spaying and neutering provides you and your pets is additional care your pet should receive from the veterinarian. Getting the necessary care for your pet will prevent disease. Canine distemper is a virus which enters the blood stream and infects the respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, urogenital epithelium, optic nerve and central nervous system. Complications like pneumonia and encephilitus can result and in puppies often results in their death.

Your pet may appear healthy, but only the veterinarian is able to give your pet preventative care and diagnose and treat existing health issues. Simple veterinary care for your pet involves making sure that your pet is protected from common diseases and spayed or neutered. You can take responsibility for additional care, like watching what your pet eats and making sure he is safe from outside harm.
