Be Safe, Hunter Safety is For Everyone May 22nd, 2011

Just because you hunt on a large piece of land, do not make the mistake of assuming you are the only person out there. While hunting, safety should always come first. A few simple tips will help you enjoy hunting trips that are both fun and safe.

Always, always, always, wear some type of bright reflective vest or clothing. The vast majority of hunting accidents happen because other hunters could not see the person, and subsequently, if they are in the line of fire, they can be shot, and possibly killed.

Always have your gun locked on safety when you are not using it. Many hunters are temped to leave the safety off, as they are afraid of losing time when an animal appears, but it is simply not worth the risk. It is possible to accidentally injure yourself, as well as those around you.

Consider using a tie line if you will be in a tree house, or using a hunting stand. This line will secure you to the tree, and in the event that the tree house, or hunting stand collapses, you will not fall.

No other sport comes with risks as serious as hunting. Make hunting safety a habit, and you will always return safely from your expeditions.
